The Greater Washington Area Chapter of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses welcomes you and invites you to join us in our many activities that foster excellence in patient and family care. Our mission is to provide quality networking and educational opportunities that prepare acute and critical care nurses to “make their optimal contribution” in delivering the highest quality patient and family centered care.
GWAC is one of the largest and most active local chapters of AACN. In 2006, the chapter won an AACN President’s Award for Chapters. Initiatives that GWAC has been involved in include promotion of the Beacon Award and the Healthy Work Environment Standards.
Our premiere conference, Spotlight on Critical Care, is attended by hundreds of acute and critical care nurses from Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. Our dinner meetings are very popular functions as well. There are also many opportunities to volunteer for our multiple committees.
The GWAC election was held this spring and officers elected are:
President Elect – Helen Hughes of Suburban Hospital
Treasurer Elect – Laura Fedge of Georgetown University Hospital
Secretary – Vicki Lindgren
Congratulations to the new Board of Directors and thank you to all the great candidates we had this year! The new Board term begins July 1, 2010.
This two day conference includes a variety of topics in the spotlight of critical care nursing. The program highlights advances in critical care, complex patient assessment, innovations in patient management, evidence-based best practices and future directions of critical care. Over 30 exhibitors will be present displaying the latest critical care technology, educational and professional opportunities.
